Even so, Season 8 had its moments, like the fireplace scene. With 2-4 additional episodes, most of the story could have been written much better, I think. You know this finale is atrocious when not only Emilia Clarke hated how the writers botched her character beyond recognition, but also George R. It all felt like the writers had a checklist of things that had to yet to happen and hastily slapped them together. Obviously, that means we still have to permanently exile Jon. The only dudes who actually want to punish Jon Snow are leaving Westeros. So, a Northener can become king of the Seven Kingdoms and the North declares independence 10 seconds after that? While the Iron Islands remain loyal? The guy with the best story should be king? Where did that particular wisdom come from? In this battle, the last remnants of the Nightswatch are wiped out, along with the Dothraki. The greatest surviving military minds in Westeros come together to plan a battle and any cat that kicks around wargaming figures can set up forces more sensibly. The last two seasons betrayed the principles the story was founded on, to the point where I was ROOTING for all of the good guys to die at the end for at least some sort of "long con" arc to reaffirm that everything is, in fact, fucked up in this world.īut no, each villain, which they spent years building and showing us how manipulative they were, just kinda died really easilyĮspecially towards the end of season 8, the show lost a lot of cohesion. It's like if, in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, the fellowship all met up and just strolled casually into Mordor and Sauron died because some rocks fell on him accidentally. A fluffy spin off of Thrones could be interesting and be a goldmine for abuse.

Still haven't seen the final series as waiting for the last books to come out.
But instead, their troubles part like Moses and the Red Sea, and all of our fan favorites show up and succeed with heavy plot armor, apparent light speed travel capabilities, and no actual personality. Proceed to massacre half the fluffies in the hall. So when, after 6 seasons of seeing our heros just BEATEN DOWN, you want to see them succeed because they've learned the "Game" and adapted.
We all tuned in because of just how goddam messed up this world was, not because the hero always won That might seem like a masochists' view, but it's kinda true.
The problem with the last two seasons of GoT are that they broke their sacred rules: no one is safe, and the world is a terrible place
